Role-playing games were invented by a game club (Midwest Military Simulations Association) - in the course of regular play, bouncing ideas off of each other, a handful of players created something magical that took on a life of its own and changed the world. Inspired by that legendary club, Unknown Lands was created with the dream of fostering a creative environment for the exploration of all kinds of games. We currently have an active Mausritter campaign in Houston and a sporadic Alien RPG group in Austin. The home chapter in San Antonio is in a transitional period and open to evolving as its membership grows.
The club is open to anyone but it is not a place for white suprematist, anti-queer, or misogynist ideas, nor is it a place for 5th-edition D&D or Pathfinder. We have found that games are improved by a diverse group of players and by everyone at the table feeling safe.
Membership in the club requires only that you want to be part of it; there are no membership fees or commitments. You are welcome to browse the signup sheets, join the discord, follow on instagram, and participate in the amount and ways that suits you.
Unknown Lands includes the Library of Chaos, a lending library of over 1,000 physical games, books, and other media, as well as a directory of thousands of digital files that are freely available to download - please don't publish any links to the files. An online catalog of the physical library is in progress; in the meantime if you are interested in browsing the physical library and borrowing materials please reach out.
The Library also has a streaming server on Plex; it is free to use although a bit of a pain to set up. The streaming server includes a curated selection of fantasy, sci-fi, and horror titles, some of which are hard to find and impossible to stream.
Thank you for reading and see you at the table!
